Students Take Over the Remaking Tomorrow Podcast and Share Their Thoughts About the Future of Learning

School is about to start back up, which has many of us wondering what learning is going to look like. Will we take lessons learned from the past 18 months and use those to inform the future of learning? One way to navigate that path is to listen to students. On the Remaking Tomorrow podcast, they’re doing just that.

Remaking Tomorrow typically features interviews between hosts Gregg Behr and Ryan Rydzewski and leading thinkers, practitioners and experts navigating the future of learning. For the next several weeks, the podcast is being handed over to those most closely engaged with the learning: students.

When asked about what they’d like to see more of from teachers, one student spoke about connection, wanting teachers to check in with students who look upset and the ability to say to a teacher, “I’m struggling and I need you to understand.”

While producers from Remake Learning, SLB Radio and KnowledgeWorks supported these new podcast hosts through technical assistance, background research and stipends, the students are very much in charge of the topics and interviews, which has led to great results. Favoritism in the classroom? Importance of social-emotional learning? Confirmation about the importance of relationships and communication? Watch for discussion of these topics and more.

Starting on August 3, 2021, and continuing for six weeks, students are discussing the issues important to them and their lives. In the first episode of the youth takeover, students Ahmonti and Zander talk with Caliel and Molly about what young people expect from educators and other trusted adults in school, and the best ways educators can support learners.
