Our team of experts ranging from former superintendents, research professionals and education policy experts, partner with learning communities to create and implement evidence-based plans that include opportunities for continuous quality improvement with actionable data. This approach creates space for interventions as needed and continued progress towards a shared vision and ongoing capacity building to sustain the change.

We track and report on goals of overall progress and impact through four high-level indicators: systems transformation, equitable outcomes, agency and engagement. These indicators are research-based, measurable and will indicate that change is occurring with the kind of depth and reach that can tip systems toward sustainable transformation at scale.

Student agency is a core concept of personalized, competency-based education. The KnowledgeWorks approach also emphasizes the importance of educator agency alongside learners. Agency is the degree to which one can exercise choice and voice in an educational setting and is a requisite for achieving more optimal educational outcomes. Research has also found that agency is a particularly relevant concept for marginalized and resilient youth and those who teach them.

Studies have found that student-centered approaches to teaching have been found to correlate with greater teacher satisfaction and less teacher burnout and that student-centered instruction leads to positive student outcomes such as:

• More voice and choice
• Increased understanding of their progress toward state standards and their own learning goals
