Today, welding is a STEM occupation

Recent studies have told us that American students have fallen woefully behind their global counterparts in the academic areas of math and science.  But what does that look like on the ground?

One example comes from a recent column by New York Times Pulitzer Prize-winning column Thomas Friedman who interviews the owner of a sheet metal company in St. Paul, Minn., with a perplexing problem: she couldn’t find welders skilled enough in math and science to execute the complicated welding techniques required by her clients.
