For Steven McGhee, the principal of Central Collegiate Academy, an EDWorks New Start school, going into education seemed a natural fit. “Education and stewardship are in my DNA,” he explained. The son of an educator and a nurse, this graduate of Detroit public schools is doing what he does for the students. He clearly loves the opportunities he has to walk through the halls of his school and interact with his students.
For McGhee, his school’s partnership with EDWorks works because it’s built on collaboration. “I wanted to make sure we got a partner that was going to assist in enhancing the education environment of my children.”
When we at EDWorks partner with schools, we approach the work as a true collaboration. We are able to bring to the school the benefit of our experience, scalability and flexibility. Our innovative designs have raised performance expectations for 50,000 students, while more than 3,000 teachers have sharpened their skills through our professional development models. The unique EDWorks approach to technical assistance can be customized to meet local needs.
Ultimately, we feel honored in have the same impact that McGhee feels in his work when he says, “It’s not just what the world can give you but what you can give back. I get to educate tomorrow today.”
