I just returned from the inspiring and informative New Tech Network 2010 Annual Conference in Chicago where I had the opportunity to meet and interact with teachers and administrators from across the New Tech network. I also had an early look at a demonstration of the newest version of the New Tech Learning Platform, a proprietary web-based system which makes New Tech’s collaborative learning environment a stand out among project-based school models. This new version builds upon the successful design of the original to help teachers and students manage the complexities of project-based learning, including centralized class resources, authentic student assessment and project management. It was exciting to see the new functionality and depth of the soon-to-be-released version – and to witness the response of the teachers and administrators to the new features it will offer.
I also enjoyed meeting and connecting with social media enthusiasts from across our organization and throughout the New Tech schools environment. I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised to see so many tech-savvy teachers and administrators – it was a “New Tech” conference, after all.

Jeanne, it would be great to see some features, concepts, approaches from the Platform.
For example, is it specific to projects? Does it track to state standards? I really don’t even know what questions to ask!!
(And…why is it proprietary, not Open Source?)
